| Certificate in Working with People who have Learning Disabilities (Foundation - Level 3) |
|
|
This certificate is aimed at full or part-time staff and volunteers working in one of many services including residential, day services, advocacy, housing, employment, domiciliary and community support. The Level 3 Certificate is specifically aimed at those staff engaged in more complex tasks than Level 2 students. Level 3 learners will also tend to have greater responsibility and will sometimes be involved in the supervision of other staff. Available as a full certificate or as individual units, this qualification can be undertaken as a standalone award or alongside the Care and Promoting Independence Level 3 NVQ. It can also be used to certificate continuing development or as a stepping stone to professional training such as social work or nursing. The certificate offers comprehensive coverage of the knowledge, skills and core values needed by workers to deliver effective and safe person centred services. It also provides a specialist and applied knowledge base which will enable learners to approach their work and further development with more confidence. There are a large variety of units to select from which are all based specifically around the learning disability specialism. This provides a range of pathways for workers across the full spectrum of services. There are five core units that each learner must complete: undertaking assessment and care planning; monitoring, evaluating and reviewing care plans; handle information; understanding approaches to learning disability; assessing and managing risk. Then there are a number of optional units that learners can choose from: enabling people to make informed choices; working positively with other agencies; managing behaviour which challenges; supporting relationships - families, carers, friends; manage change and transition; support service users to access health care services. Entry Requirements No specific prior qualifications, learning or experience are required for learners undertaking this Level 3 Certificate, but basic skills in literacy and numeracy are important. Since this qualification is really about applied knowledge and skills it is also essential that learners are working with service users in a paid or unpaid capacity. Does this Qualification Form Part of a Recognised Framework? This Certificate is a vocationally related qualification that has been designed to complement and enhance the S/NVQ structure. It has direct links with the Care and Promoting Independence Level 3 S/NVQ and evidence produced as part of this award can be used to support the S/NVQ. The certificate is a vocationally related qualification accredited by QCA and forms part of the national qualifications framework for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
